Koror is the former capital of the Republic of Palau, a Pacific island nation, and also its largest city, located in the Caroline Islands in the western Pacific Ocean. It belongs to Koror State. The people are warm and hospitable, proficient in English. The official currency is the US dollar, and the marine resources, including fish, are abundant, making it a paradise for snorkeling and diving. Koror is the largest city in Palau, situated in the Caroline Islands in the western Pacific Ocean, and is part of Koror State, covering an area of only about 8 square kilometers. Palau itself is an archipelago nation composed of over 300 small islands. After gaining independence on October 1, 1994, Koror, a volcanic island, was chosen as the administrative center. In October 2006, the capital was relocated to Melekeok. Koror is not an industrial city, so all food and daily necessities need to be imported from abroad. The economy is mainly supported by the tourism industry, and to accommodate visitors from around the world, the nearby Babeldaob Island in Airai State houses the Koror International Airport.
