Located between 20.25° north latitude and 103.48° west longitude, the small town in Mexico is the main production area for the famous Mexican liquor, tequila, which is named after the town. Tequila town is almost entirely centered around the brewing activities of tequila, Mexico’s main export specialty. With the growing international reputation of tequila, Tequila town holds a tequila festival each year, increasing the proportion of tourism income. There are 24 major tequila distilleries in Tequila town, with the largest ones, Cuervo and Sauza, being the most famous in the American market. These two companies, as the main competitors in the market, have become collaborative manufacturers through a merger. It takes eight years for the agave to mature before the sugary stem resembling a pineapple is harvested for tequila production, which involves steaming, chopping, juicing, fermenting, and distilling. According to Mexican law, during fermentation, sugar cane or corn can be added, but not exceeding 49%.
