Saint Ann’s Bay serves as the capital of the parish of Saint Ann, and is also the third capital established by Spain in the Americas. It gained fame as the great Italian navigator Columbus first landed here in 1494, and later got stranded in Saint Ann’s Bay for a whole year during his fourth voyage.

In the center of Saint Ann’s Bay stands a statue of the great navigator Columbus, commemorating the discovery of Jamaica. The name Saint Ann’s Bay comes from the vast and beautiful bay in this area. Columbus was deeply attracted by the beauty of the bay when he first arrived here, and he called this place a beautiful paradise.

The bay of Saint Ann’s Bay is very extensive and suitable for transportation, with a large amount of goods being imported and exported through here. The renowned Black Jamaican leader Marcus Garvey was born here, and his statue stands in front of the Saint Ann’s Bay Library to commemorate his significant contributions to the Black community.
