Gabrovo is located in the central north of Bulgaria, in the central Balkan Mountains, within the valley of the Yantra River, and it is the capital of Gabrovo Province. The city is the longest in Bulgaria, stretching 25 kilometers along the Yantra River from north to south, with the narrowest point being only 1 kilometer wide.

Gabrovo is known as the “Manchester of Bulgaria” for its reputation for “humor” and “thriftiness”. Additionally, the city is famous for its architecture from the Bulgarian National Revival period. It serves as an international center for humor and satire, with a Humor and Satire Museum in the city that houses cultural facilities, museums, galleries, and displays of satirical art. Moreover, there are numerous theaters, museums, and house museums in the city and surrounding areas, with a notable mention of the Etar and Aprilov High School Education Museum. Furthermore, the Dryanovo Monastery, Sokolski Monastery, and the skiing resort Uzana are must-visit destinations. Visitors can embark on hikes to the Central Balkan National Park from Gabrovo and also visit the Shipka Pass.
