Valença is a city in the Viana do Castelo District of Portugal, located on the banks of the Minho River, near the Spanish border, with its history dating back to the Roman period. Today, it is an important commercial and tourist destination, as well as a campus of the Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute in Portugal.

Valença boasts several attractions, with Valença Fortress being a Gothic and Baroque military structure overlooking the tranquil Minho River and Spain. This fortress has undergone destruction, with its walls dating back to the 13th century and strengthened in the 17th and 18th centuries to form the current fortification system. The Roman road inside the fortress can be traced back to the 1st century. In 1879, Portugal and Spain established a joint highway and railway bridge, known as the Old International Bridge, which is still in use today.

The Church of Saint Stephen, established in the 13th century, the Church of Saint Mary from the 12th century, ancient cannons, the first Portugal-Statue, and the beautiful countryside nearby are all worth visiting.
