Tegal is located in the central part of Java Island, southeast of Indonesia, 175 kilometers from Semarang. It is under the jurisdiction of Central Java Province and is the largest city in the Tegal region. The sugar industry originated in this city during the Dutch East Indies colonial period. Today, it is an important sugar export hub and is known for its tea culture.

Tegal is one of the charming cities in Indonesia, with a long history, natural sulfur waterfalls that can treat skin diseases, beautiful beaches, Tegal train station connecting multiple cities, and fascinating local cultural performances. The Ze Hai Palace, with a history of nearly 200 years and covering an area of about 300 hectares, is very famous. This magnificent temple adopts the traditional Chinese temple architectural style, grand and exquisite, dedicated to the Ze Hai deity, and has been continuously worshipped. The temple also provides simple guest rooms for pilgrims from afar, and during festive events, the stage built near the temple is an important gathering place.

The local tea tasting tradition is also very intriguing. Many tea stalls open late at night along the streets, offering tea tasting. The vivid and imaginative large teapot sculptures erected next to the tea houses vividly display Tegal’s rich tea culture.
