Batangas is a province in the Philippines, located in the southwest of Luzon and part of the Calabarzon region. Its capital is Batangas City, bordering the provinces of Cavite and Laguna to the north, and Quezon to the east. To the south via the Verde Island Passage is Mindoro Island, and to the west lies the South China Sea. It is a major port city in the southwest of Luzon Island, Philippines. The capital of Batangas Province is situated in the northeast of Batangas Bay, approximately 90 kilometers north of Manila. The population was 155,000 in 1983. It is connected to Manila by railway and road, with a port for coastal shipping. It is a distribution center for rice, sugar, corn, coconut, and fish, with oil refineries and lumber factories.
