Hai Phong is one of the centrally-governed cities in Vietnam, ranking as the country’s third largest city, the largest port city in the north, and one of the largest industrial cities. Located in the Red River Delta, Hai Phong borders Guang Ning province to the north, faces the Gulf of Tonkin to the east, and is 104 kilometers west of Hanoi. The city extends along the left bank of the Cam River, encompassing not only the land area but also some sea islands, with a total area of 1,503 square kilometers. Hai Phong is a modern tourist city with numerous historical sites and scenic spots, most of which are located in the suburbs, such as the summer resort Tuc Mountain, the national forest Gun Island, and the famous ancient temple of Vinh Nghiem. With over 100 kilometers of coastline, Hai Phong enjoys pleasant weather and beautiful scenery. Cat Ba Island to the east of Hai Phong is a shining gem of the Gulf of Tonkin and a major fishing center in northern Vietnam. Facing Cat Ba Island is another picturesque summer resort – the Tuc Mountain Peninsula, located 20 kilometers from the city center, with charming seaside views that attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists for leisure and sightseeing every summer.
