Astana is located in the semi-desert grasslands in the central-northern part of Kazakhstan. It is an autonomous city of Kazakhstan and has been the capital of the Central Asian country since 1997, making it the second largest city in Kazakhstan after Almaty. The city is often referred to as the “heart of the Eurasian continent” and is one of the youngest capital cities in the world, as well as the most modern city in Central Asia.
Astana has a pleasant four-season climate, a good ecological environment, and the beautiful Ishim River running through it. It is a rapidly developing capital city that has garnered worldwide attention. The city is adorned with flower beds, lawns, mini-parks, and city squares, boasting a collection of unique and aesthetic buildings that rival those in major European cities. Astana is divided into European-style architecture and Islamic architecture, showcasing structures that are on par with those found in Europe. One of its notable landmarks is the Khan Shatyr, the world’s largest tent standing at 150 meters high, featuring an indoor artificial beach, waterfall, a mini-golf course, and a botanical garden. The Bayterek Tower is Astana’s most iconic landmark, serving as a memorial tower and observation tower, and is a key tourist attraction as well as a symbol of Astana.
