The Khutse Game Reserve was established in 1971. “Khutse” means a place where you can kneel down to drink water. It is the second oldest wildlife reserve in Botswana.
Due to its proximity to Botswana’s capital, Gaborone, and convenient transportation, the Khutse Game Reserve is popular among local residents and tourists from other places. It is only 240 kilometers drive from Gaborone, where you can pass through many interesting Kalahari villages and the entrance to the Kalahari Desert at Molepolole.
The Khutse Game Reserve is adjacent to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and there is no fence separating the two reserves. The Khutse Game Reserve covers an area of 2500 square kilometers and includes various landscapes such as grasslands, riverbeds, fossil sand dunes, grassy plains, and exposed basins. There are picturesque small basins where wildlife often gathers, especially during the rainy season when you can see a variety of animals such as giraffes, kudus, impalas, springboks, sable antelopes, oryxes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs.
