The National Museum of Mali is located in the capital city of Bamako, Mali. It is an archaeological and anthropological museum with the aim of preserving and promoting Mali’s traditional culture and history. The museum houses temporary and permanent collections from Mali’s prehistory, as well as musical instruments, costumes, and items related to Mali’s ethnic minorities.

Currently, the National Museum has 6,000 archaeological and anthropological artifacts, 40,000 manuscripts and slides, 150 musical instruments, 500 boxes of audio tapes, and 300 video tapes. The museum is divided into different exhibition halls – the first hall displays stone tools used by desert dwellers and everyday utensils similar to those of the Yuanmou people; the second hall showcases exaggerated wood carvings that are visually striking but photography is not allowed; the third hall exhibits clothing and fabrics, including worn-out hats and pieces of cloth. The National Museum provides visitors with further insights into Mali’s culture and history.
